Raven Jennifer Demers
Reiki In 1998, I came to Reiki through my mother. I learned this ancient, hands-on healing from a woman who was both my mother's Reiki Master, and a Shaman on Whidbey Island, WA. She taught the Usui method of Reiki, and lead a monthly group Reiki session in a friend's home. Every month I would make my way from Seattle to Whidbey Island and share in this amazing technique for easing the suffering of others. We saw both physical and emotional improvement in our group's members, and slowly I moved through the levels of Reiki. In 2001, I felt called to learn the third level and eventually to teach and share what I had learned. While much has been lost through time and political struggles, what remains of Reiki is a form of healing that speaks to the spirit or energy of a person and works inward toward the physical cause. I find it is best used in tandem with other healing methods and medical treatments, as it can ease pain, unblock obstacles, and help a person to move through difficult times. I currently provide complimentary Reiki lessons to students, teachers, and parents at the Giddens School in Seattle. I am available for group and individual sessions of both teaching and healing. I find that for Levels I and II, group environments work best because each student has several chances to practice healing and also receive a group healing for him- or herself. Level I Session: an attunement is given to open your energy channels to Reiki. Once complete, students learn standard hand positions and the relation of energy in the body to the main flow of energy akin to Kundalini and Chakra teachings. Self-healing hand positions are also taught. Level II Session: a Level II attunement is given, and students learn the first three symbols used that help Reiki practictioners focus on a specific energy flow. Distance healing and instruction on visualization is given. Further instruction is given on hand placements. Group Lessons: Children will be taught on a yoga mat. Please provide your own pillows to preserve sanitary conditions. Teen and adult students will have a massage table provided; bringing individual pillows is recommended. The two most important rules are 1) respect the body and requests of the people you are touching/healing, and 2) if you receive a healing, you must participate in healing the others in your group. Reiki changes people. The further one moves through its levels, the more that must change within the person. There can be much lost (i.e. old ways of thinking, destructive habits, harmful relationships, et al) as well as gained when learning the Reiki forms. I highly recommend naturopaths, doctors, and massage or physical therapists consider incorporating Reiki with their practice to help assist their clients and patients in their own healings. I hope to facilitate you along your own path to healing and growth. The fees below may be negotiated for those in financial need. Trading is also welcome with discussion. Additional travel costs may be included in the fee for clients outside the Seattle, Redmond, and Woodinville areas.
